Our History

CoreFirst Bank & Trust is headquartered in Topeka, KS and is a secure, regional, community bank built on a foundation of strong ethics and standards.

We began our rich history as Commerce Bank & Trust, and when our most loyal customers showed a need for further geographic expansion into regions with a “like” name, the CoreFirst Bank & Trust brand was born in 2007.

With roots that stretch deep through Kansas, it was only natural to begin our expansion focus on states bordering Kansas. Currently our efforts are focused on the Kansas City and Denver areas. Six CoreFirst locations have opened in the South Denver area. These locations are in Denver, Centennial and Aurora and extend our branch network to over 32 locations. We hope to open an additional 5 Denver locations by the end of 2009 and 2 more locations in Kansas City.

The philosophy of CoreFirst is to provide customers with innovative, cutting edge products & services and unbeatable customer service. This is evident by an impressive list of customer service “firsts” including being the first in the region to implement automated checking in the 60’s, 24-hour ATMs in the 70’s and grocery store banks with extended banking hours in the 80’s. These advances catapulted CoreFirst to the top spot, and the bank was awarded the title of “Best Bank in Kansas” by Money Magazine in the late 90’s.

All of these trademarks are the principles that CoreFirst were founded on and continue to guide us today. We are elated about the progress of our expansion plans that will make banking even more convenient for our customers. In particular we are excited about our progression into the Kansas City and Denver areas. We look forward to many years of being a strong, respected, trusted community bank by offering consumers and businesses superior customer service and a multitude of pioneering products and services.

History Timeline

· 1959 – Commerce Bank & Trust opens for business in Topeka, Kansas.

· 1960s – Innovative from the beginning, first in the region to offer automated checking, a significant technological advance.

· 1976 – First ATM in the region is installed.

· 1988 – Opens the first grocery store banking branch in the state of Kansas.

· 1995 – Named “Best Bank in Kansas” by Money Magazine. The award was based on product innovation and unsurpassed customer convenience.

· 1997 – Expansion efforts begin with branches outside the trade area.

· 2004 – Assets grow to more than $1 billion

· 2007 – With more than 23 branches in northeast Kansas, Commerce Bank & Trust announces regional expansion plans. In order to accomplish this, an additional brand is created: CoreFirst Bank & Trust.

· 2008 – Offering exceptional customer service and convenience, CoreFirst Bank & Trust opens its first expansion branches. Two in the Kansas City area and 6 branches in Denver, Colorado.

· 2009 – New branches are scheduled to open in Kansas and Colorado.
